Aside from diving into all the latest PS5 games, you can’t really beat relaxing with a movie or two on a Friday night. Well, if you’re somewhat of a movie buff or fancy checking out some free movies – you’re in luck. Sony is launching an overhaul of the Bravia Core streaming service, bringing PS Plus Premium and Deluxe users the chance to see best of what Sony Pictures Core has to offer.

“Bravia Core will be rebranded to Sony Pictures Core […] and starting today, we’re launching the Sony Pictures Core app on PS5 and PS4 consoles,” explains Sony in a recent post on the official PlayStation blog. Signing up to the service will allow you to “buy or rent up to 2,000 movies straight from your console. At launch, this will include blockbuster hits such as Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse, Spider-Man No Way Home [and] Uncharted.”

PS Plus Premium and Deluxe users have a great deal, though, alongside getting the chance to play some of the best PS5 games around. “You’ll get access to a curated catalog of up to 100 movies through the Sony Pictures Core app to stream on demand from the Sony Pictures library as part of your membership.” Amid this range of 100 free movies includes the likes of some of the best science fictions movies, such as Rian Johnson’s Looper, Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium, and Resident Evil Damnation.

Sony also clarifies that “there will also be additional benefits for all PlayStation Plus members”, but these are yet to be detailed.

Depending on what region you are in, you can access Sony Pictures Core from Thursday, October, 5, 2023. One caveat with the range of free movies does focus on your location, as the small print notes that the “catalog content varies over time, region/country, and plan, and requires separate download and use of Sony Pictures Core App.” For those of you in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Japan, the first movie to be part of Sony Pictures Core early access is none other than Gran Turismo – also directed by Neill Blomkamp.

“With the purchase of this movie through Sony Pictures Core, you’ll receive credit towards an in-game purchase in Gran Turismo 7, including cars featured in the movie. The film is also IMAX Enhanced, delivering an elevated viewing experience with signature picture quality on PS5 and PS4 right in your living room.” Gran Turismo 7 is often in the conversation of the best racing games not just on PlayStation, but overall. However, it has some fierce competition from the recently released Forza Motorsport.
