What happened to Overwatch 2 PvE mode?

Overwatch 2 PvE was canceled by Blizzard Entertainment in March 2024. While Overwatch 2 itself is now out, the PvE mode was largely being developed largely separately but would have had PvP progression and unlocks. According to a report from Bloomberg, Overwatch 2 PvE was scrapped, allegedly due to poor sales.

Furthermore, in a statement from Blizzard Entertainment spokesperson Andrew Reynolds, they add that “decisions like these are in service to our community and based on feedback, which is also good for our business and the future of the game […] [We’re] exploring new experiences, big and small, which will push the frontiers of the Overwatch universe.”

What modes would have been in Overwatch 2 PvE?

This mode would have featured tons of missions for you to play with characters from across the hero roster.
