NBA 2K24 Giannis rating – the Greek Freak dips from his peak

Find out how the breakthrough player for the Bucks ranks this year, with the NBA 2K24 Giannis rating and if he is worth including in your team.

NBA 2K24 Giannis Rating: Giannis can be seen

We’re just a few short weeks away from the launch of NBA 2K24, and that means ratings season is already out in full force with several of the top players across the league already being revealed. Not every player is going to get the recognition they deserve, but it’s hard to argue the NBA 2K24 Giannis rating wasn’t earned.

The Greek Freak may not have managed to secure another NBA Championship for his team, but Giannis Antetokounmpo blazed a trail of broken records and career-high scoring throughout the regular season. While he won’t be the highest-rated player among the NBA 2K24 ratings, the distance between Giannis and the top of the pack could shrink if he dominates this season.

With a 96 OVR, The Greek Freak is tied in the NBA 2K24 ratings with LeBron James, Joel Embiid, Kevin Durant, and Steph Curry. While it’s not bad company to keep, it does represent a minor dip in the NBA 2K24 Giannis rating compared to the last few years.

Some players hit the NBA 2K franchise with extremely high potential and hopes for dominance, but Giannis Antetokounmpo arrived first in NBA 2K14 with a meager 60 OVR rating coming into his rookie season. It took a few years for him to finally start firing on all cylinders, but once The Greek Freak came to life there’s basically been no stopping him. Giannis hit 94 OVR in NBA 2K18 and still hasn’t dropped below that the last several years. Fortunately, that continues to ring true now that the NBA 2K24 ratings are being revealed.

The league’s top ten players were among the first to be announced, and the NBA 2K24 Giannis rating revealed puts him in the upper echelon but not quite at the top. That honor went to 2023 NBA Champion and NBA Finals MVP Nikola Jokić with a near-perfect 98 OVR rating in NBA 2K24, but Giannis isn’t far behind.

After holding solid at 97 OVR the last two games, the NBA 2K24 ratings have perhaps undeservedly given a slight dip down to 96 OVR for Giannis. While he’s still one of the highest-rated in the game, it’s difficult to make the case that the 2023 season saw a lesser Giannis on the court than the previous two years.

After securing an NBA Championship and Finals MVP nod in 2021, his failure to recapture that same accolade the last two seasons likely has more to do with the rest of the Milwaukee Bucks than with Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Even with unsuccessful playoff runs for the team, Giannis himself continued to break records and prove he was the same unstoppable force as always. Over the last few years, Giannis became the only player in NBA history to average at least 25 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steals, and 1 blocks in multiple seasons. He became the first player in NBA history with 200 points, 100 rebounds, and 50 assists in a playoff series.

It’s starting to feel like records are made for Giannis to break them, as he’s been passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar benchmarks from five decades ago on a regular basis including setting Bucks franchise records as career-leading scorer, most playoff points, and most All-NBA team honors.

Last season, Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Bucks into the NBA playoffs, but a poorly-timed injury ended another hopeful championship run. In the first game of the 2023 NBA Playoffs against the Miami Heat, Giannis suffered a lower back contusion and missed the remainder of that game and the following two games. While he was able to return in game four to put up 26 points, 10 rebounds, and 13 assists, it wasn’t enough for the win. He followed that up with 38 points and 20 rebounds in game five, but the Heat managed to take an overtime victory and eliminate the Bucks from the playoffs.
