For MGS fans, the Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater release date will revive an all-time classic from Konami’s stealth series, and there’s a lot of hype for it.

Bringing the excellent Metal Gear Solid 3 up to date with refined mechanics and great new visuals, it’s hard to imagine Delta Snake Eater not being one of the best games for fans of Hideo Kojima’s work (even if the man himself isn’t directly involved with this remake). Here’s everything you need to know about one of the most exciting new Xbox games and new PS5 games on the horizon.

Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater release date window

While Konami has not officially revealed a release date or window, Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater is expected to release some time in 2024 due to its inclusion in a PlayStation montage highlighting upcoming games for this year.

In the video below, Delta Snake Eater appears alongside some of the best PS5 games that have launched in 2024, like Helldivers 2, Stellar Blade, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Dragon’s Dogma 2. However, no trailers or press releases for the game have corroborated the 2024 window that PlayStation suggests, so there is always a chance the game could slip into 2025.

While the game was revealed for just PS5 at the PlayStation Showcase 2023 event, Konami has since confirmed that MGS Delta Snake Eater is coming to Xbox Series X|S and PC. The game won’t be coming to last-gen consoles.

This remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 features the original voice actors that fans will recognize, including the iconic Naked Snake portrayed by David Hayter. Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater will also update the graphics and gameplay to more modern standards, while keeping with the original design philosophy fans will expect.

Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater ‘Delta’ meaning

Konami has revealed that the name Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater represents remaking the original game without changing the core structure, with delta meaning ‘change’ or ‘difference’.

As such, the remake seeks to modernize the experience without changing what fans fell in love with in the original release. This was expanded upon by the statement from the development team which notes that they are aiming for it to be a “faithful recreation of the original story and game design, while evolving the gameplay with stunning visuals and a seamless user experience.”

Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater gameplay

All of the stealth action fans love in MGS will be in full force in Delta Snake Eater. As mentioned, the levels and gameplay mechanics are incredibly faithful to the source material.

One key difference is that you’ll be able to play in two different modes – Legacy Mode and New Mode.

Legacy tries to replicate the exact feel of the original by giving you the same control screen and overhead third-person camera that was in the original MGS3. However, the New Mode will make its feel more like modern shooters, with a tighter, over-the-shoulder third-person camera.

There you have it, a handy overview of MGS Delta Snake Eater. As big Metal Gear fans, we’re really hopeful Konami has nailed this remake and that it’ll go down as one of the best PS5 games and best Xbox games of this generation.
