Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, the sequel to Nintendo Switch’s highly praised turn-based strategy game with personality Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, is confirmed to be releasing in less than a year’s time – and that’s directly from the game’s developer, Ubisoft.

According to a financial report from Ubisoft, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope is set to be released this financial year, which means that we should see the comical strategy game release before April 2023. The report states that Sparks of Hope is part of a “diverse line-up of premium games” that is part of a strategy to “significantly grow our topline.”

That means we have less than a year to wait at most before we start directing Rabbid versions of Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and other series favourites around while they fight evil Rabbids. While we’re still light on the minutiae of the game, it’s likely we’ll see some gameplay over the next few months as Summer Game Fest heats up.

Ubisoft was unique in being able to licence the use of Mario and company from Nintendo for the first game, and Nintendo must be happy with the direction the French company is taking the series as they’ve let them create another game based on their original IP.

The report also names other Ubisoft games that are slated for a release this financial year, including Avatar Frontiers of Pandora, a game based on James Cameron’s blue people movie, and Skull and Bones, which is centred around naval combat similar to what we saw in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag.

Ubisoft has also announced its Roller Champions release date.
