After his passing in December 2021, EA has revealed that John Madden will be the cover star for Madden NFL 23, with box art that harkens back to the original John Madden Football game from 1988.
The new box art shows John Madden bursting through a wall, with scribbles drawn around him referencing plays and strategies, topped off by “thanks, coach” written on there as well. Other box art for the different editions of the game, show John Madden in a commentator’s box and the man celebrating amongst athletes.
This reveal comes the day before the official reveal of Madden 23 on June 2, where we will learn the Madden NFL 23 release date and get a first look at this year’s game and the changes EA are implementing. New features and enhancements are also likely to be showcased.
You can get a full rundown of the design decisions behind the three different box arts for the game on the EA Blog.
