When is the Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 release date? After releasing one of the most unexpectedly great racing games in 2021, Milestone is back with what looks to be an ambitious sequel that improves in key areas where the first game was lacking.
Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 Turbocharged is dropping later this year and we already know quite a bit about what we can expect. We have high hopes it is going to make its way into the best racing games list and really stand out as one of the best of the year, alongside other games in the genre.
Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 release date
The Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 Turbocharged release date is October 19, 2023, on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. The game will launch roughly two years after the first entry in the series, which released in September 2021.
It’s great to see Milestone release a new game so fast and hopefully, it will improve upon some of the things the original lacked.
Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 gameplay
This entry will see the debut of ATVs and motorcycles and will offer more than 130 vehicles to drive. Additionally, there will be a greater diversity of environments in the game with five distinct locales to race within that expand into new territory beyond the abandoned buildings of the first game. New vehicle categories: Stock, Powered, and Ultimate add a greater depth to the racing experience according to Milestone, allowing players to use skill points to earn perks and build a vehicle suited to them.
The latest gameplay trailer shows off some of the new courses, the new upgrade system, and more. We also got to go hands-on with the game in London alongside the Milestone team in our Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 gameplay preview.
On top of that, cars can now dash and jump to perform sideswipes and hop across gaps, creating more frantic and hectic races. While we wait for a full gameplay trailer, we do have a great CGI trailer to watch.
Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 modes
Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 has a number of modes:
- Original story-driven campaign
- Online and offline multiplayer
- Split-screen
- Track Editor
- User-generated content sharing
The original story-driven campaign is far more refined than the first game with four original characters. This mode will explore each individual’s personality and background, presented through animated cutscenes and a narrative chronicling their journey.
Multiplayer returns in the same way as you would expect with additional modes for offline and online play. Although, Milestone hasn’t gone into detail on these yet apart from confirming split-screen and crossplay will be available.
The Track Editor also returns, this time with new modules and customization options to reflect the diversity you will find across Hot Wheels Unleashed 2’s tracks, being able to share those online as well.
There you have it, everything we know ahead of the Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 release date. We are hoping the game will improve upon the first in a number of key ways, which was already a solid racing experience. You can read our Hot Wheels Unleashed review to see what we thought back in 2021.
