There are plenty of goodies and items to pick up around the Wizarding World, but you’ll need to find various Hogwarts Legacy chests to get most of them.

As an open world game, there are many secrets and items to find across the map, and the Hogwarts Legacy chests aren’t always in plain sight. Whether you’re hoping to find something to add to your collection of gear or some extra money to purchase items, these chests can be a great way to do so.

We found a lot of chests during our Hogwarts Legacy review, some common and some more elusive than others. These are a great way to save up some Hogwarts Legacy Gold, as well as pick up some new gear. They also help towards the Hogwarts Legacy level cap, as you get XP for opening many of them.

Hogwarts Legacy chests

There are five types of chests to find in the game, all but one you can find in all regions of the map. Here are the types of Hogwarts Legacy chests below:

Small chests
Large chests
Disillusionment chests
Collection chests
House Chest

Hogwarts Legacy small and large chests

The small and large chests are scattered throughout the Hogwarts Legacy map, and can be found by either completing small environmental puzzles, or hidden around corners. The small chests typically hold Gold, whereas the large chests usually contain a piece of gear.

Hogwarts Legacy Disillusionment chests

Also known as the eyeball chests, these strange chests that have a large eyeball at the front of them can be found in the hallways around Hogwarts, as well as small villages and Hogsmeade. You can find out how to open eyeball chests in Hogwarts Legacy, but hint: you need to go invisible.

Hogwarts Legacy Collection chests

The Collection chests can be found across the entire map, and hold various items depending on which one you grab. They come in various sizes, but can hold traits, Gold, gear, etc. and can even include some of the above chest types.

Hogwarts Legacy House Chest

The House Chest, with each Hogwarts Legacy House having their own one, can be found inside the common room of each House. It can be opened by collecting Daedalian Keys and contains a special House Robe for you to wear.

Those are all of the Hogwarts Legacy chest types for you to find on your adventure in the Wizarding World. You can find out more tips to help you in the latest game by checking out our Hogwarts Legacy walkthrough, and we recommend using our Hogwarts Legacy best spells guide in particular.

Hogwarts Legacy has drawn considerable criticism during its development, largely due to the fact that the creator of the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling, has made a number of transphobic remarks on social media in recent years.

While Avalanche has confirmed that J.K. Rowling is not “directly involved” in the development of Hogwarts Legacy, it is working with “her team” and Portkey Games, a Warner Bros. label dedicated to launching new experiences inspired by J.K. Rowling’s original stories. It is currently unclear whether she will earn any royalties from the game’s sale, but it is likely given it is based on her original body of work.
