Navigating Hogwarts can be a challenge at the best of times, so finding landmarks using treasure map clues is a confusing process no doubt. If you’re looking for the maps for the Hogwarts Legacy Cache in the Castle side quest, then you’re in the right place.
The Hogwarts Legacy Cache in the Castle side quest is relatively short, providing you know where to go. However, there are plenty of other quests that make the Hogwarts Legacy length surprisingly long, which is good for those who want to be immersed in Hogwarts for a long time. This guide is based on our time playing for our Hogwarts Legacy review on PS5.
The Hogwarts Legacy Cache in the Castle quest has you finding three landmarks around The Astronomy Wing in Hogwarts.
To start the Cache in the Castle side quest, find Arthur Pummly next to the large statue outside the Charms Classroom in The Astronomy Wing. Luckily, there’s a handy Charms Classroom Floo Flame you can use to travel here. Do note that you’ll have to have completed the Welcome to Hogsmeade quest before you’re able to accept the Cache in the Castle quest to help Arthur with his treasure map conundrum.
The first landmark given in Arthur’s treasure map is of a rhinoceros skeleton. This can be found on the lower floor of the Defence Against the Dark Arts area in The Astronomy Wing.
Travel to the Defence Against the Dark Arts Classroom Floo Flame and head along the hallway to find the stairs to the lower level. Here you will find a large dinosaur skeleton on display. Walk up to the landmark to move on to the next quest step.
The second landmark alluded to in Arthur’s treasure map is of a dragon fountain statue you’ll no doubt recognise. If you’ve forgotten where this location is, it can be found in the Transfiguration Courtyard of The Astronomy Wing.
Travel to the Transfiguration Courtyard Floo Flame and you’ll find the dragon fountain statue right in the middle of the courtyard. Again, walk up to it to continue the quest.
The third and final landmark shown in Arthur’s treasure map is of a painting, which is perhaps the hardest one to find. Thankfully, the North Hall stairwell is not far from the second landmark in the Transfiguration Courtyard of The Astronomy Wing.
From the Transfiguration Courtyard Floo Flame, head through the large doors behind the dragon fountain statue and the tree to enter the North Hall, home to the History of Magic class. Head up the stairwell to the right to find the painting on the wall, which your character will make mention when nearby. Use Accio on the painting to reveal a room with a chest containing the Authentic Historian’s Uniform outfit.
Now that you’ve found all of the locations for the Hogwarts Legacy Cache in the Castle quest, you can return to Arthur in the same spot near the Charms Classroom. Along with the Authentic Historian’s Uniform outfit obtained from the chest during the quest, you’ll also be rewarded with XP upon completion.
You’ve now solved the troublesome treasure map to help out Arthur in the Hogwarts Legacy Cache in the Castle side quest and got yourself a fancy new outfit for your time spent. Hogwarts Legacy has drawn considerable criticism during its development, largely due to the fact that the creator of the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling, has made a number of transphobic remarks on social media in recent years.
While Avalanche has confirmed that J.K. Rowling is not “directly involved” in the development of Hogwarts Legacy, it is working with “her team” and Portkey Games, a Warner Bros. label dedicated to launching new experiences inspired by J.K. Rowling’s original stories. It is currently unclear whether she will earn any royalties from the game’s sale, but it is likely given it is based on her original body of work.
