The Game Awards 2022 nominations have been revealed by Keighley, The Almighty, and it’s no surprise to see many of the categories dominated by two of this year’s titanic releases: Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarok. However, with ten nominations in total compared to Elden Ring’s seven, it seems that Kratos and co. have won this first battle between the two Game of the Year contenders.
As mentioned (and expected) both are up for Game of the Year, alongside Stray, Xenobalde Chronicles 3, Horizon Forbidden West, and A Plague Tale Requiem. There are also plenty of other categories where the two will go head to head too, including Best Game Direction, Best Score and Music, and Best Narrative.
The difference maker between the two titles is largely down to two members of the God of War Ragnarok cast getting nominated for Best Performance, and that Santa Monica Studio’s excellent endeavours to make Ragnarok as accessible as possible also earned it a nod in the Innovation in Accessibility category.
With the two massively popular and exquisite games going head to head across so many categories, it will be interesting to see which of them will leave with the most accolades come the end of The Game Awards 2022 on December 8.
Other heavily nominated games for this year’s awards include Horizon Forbidden West (7), Stray (6), and A Plague Tale Requiem (5).
New multiplayer titles like Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Overwatch 2, and MultiVersus also picked up some nominations, and the likes of Destiny 2, Genshin Impact, and Apex Legends were nominated for the Best Ongoing Game category too.
