Genshin Impact 2.8 leaks, release date, banners, and more

There's a new Genshin Impact version on the horizon, and there are already plenty of Genshin Impact 2.8 leaks floating around the internet

Genshin Impact 2.8 leaks: Fischl and Diluc

Genshin Impact 2.8 may still be some time away, but data miners and leakers are already on the case digging away for all the information they can find. With the upcoming version now officially in beta – with HoYoverse recently announcing its release date – there are already plenty of Genshin Impact 2.8 leaks out there.

So far, the Genshin Impact 2.8 leaks have showcased the abilities of the game’s most-recently announced character, Shikanoin Heizou, as well as details surrounding the events we’ll be taking part in, and quests we’re going to be embarking on. Reportedly the last patch before we head over to Sumeru – Genshin’s newest region – we could very well meet some very important Genshin Impact characters over the course of Genshin Impact 2.8.

To help prepare you for the upcoming version, we’ve grabbed all of the Genshin Impact 2.8 leaks we’ve been able to get our grubby mitts on, and collated them here in this handy guide. As always, we’ve noted any sources that aren’t considered reliable by the community as ‘questionable’, and recommend you take any leak with a pinch of salt. Additionally, pre-release information can always change, so we’ll be sure to keep this guide updated regularly.

Genshin Impact 2.8 leaks

Below you’ll find all the latest Genshin Impact 2.8 leaks. But before we get into those, HoYoverse has officially confirmed when the new version is set to arrive.

Genshin Impact 2.8 release date

The Genshin Impact 2.8 release date is July 13, 2022. HoYoverse confirmed the date shortly before May’s Verison 2.7 livestream. There had been rumours that Genshin Impact 2.7 would be shortened so that 2.8 would arrive on schedule in late June, though it’s now clear that Genshin’s entire content calendar has been shifted as a result of Shanghai’s COVID-19 situation.

Genshin Impact 2.8 banners

So far the Genshin Impact 2.8 banners have yet to be confirmed, but reliable leakers have reported who we should be seeing in 2.8.

According to ‘Lumie’, Klee and Kazuha will arrive with their respective weapons – Lost Prayer and Freedom Sworn – alongside Shikanoin Heizou on the first banner. Meanwhile, Uncle Y reports that Yoimiya will be getting a rerun at some point during the version, which sets her up for a banner appearance during phase two should Lumie’s leak prove correct.

Genshin Impact 2.8 characters

HoYoverse recently announced that the Shikanoin Heizou release date will see the Anemo catalyst user come to Teyvat in the near future. Based on Lumie’s banner leaks, we should be seeing the latest addition to the Genshin Impact characters arrive in phase one of 2.8.

Based on reports of Diluc and Fischl getting new skins, we can also surmise that the pair will make an appearance during Genshin Impact 2.8 at some point. Although we’ve seen plenty of Diluc since launch, we actually haven’t spent any quality time with Fischl since all the way back in Version 1.1’s Unreconciled Stars event.

The pair aren’t alone, however. According to a report from Project Celestia, the main event of 2.8, ‘Summertime Odyssey’, will also feature Kazuha, Mona, Xiangling, Xinyan, Yun Jin, and Venti, alongside an unannounced character called Nahida who could play a major role heading into Sumeru.

Speaking of Sumeru, ‘Lumie’ says we’re due to “hear from a new character in 2.8”, though the leaker notes that we won’t be “physically meeting them.” Mysterious.

Genshin Impact 2.8 events

The Genshin Impact 2.8 events are looking pretty darn good if the leaks are true. The main event is expected to be called ‘Summertime Odyssey’ – having recently been renamed from ‘A Summer Sea Sojourn’ – with Fischl serving as the character reward for completing it.

As with Version 2.6’s Magnificent Irodori Festival, players will have to complete a number of sub-events in order to soak up all of the rewards Summertime Odyssey has to offer. Additionally, there is set to be a new Waverider event called ‘Surfpiercer Challenge’. So far, the following Genshin Impact 2.8 events have been reliably reported:

  • Evermotion Mechanical Painting
  • Reminiscent Regimen
  • Resonating Visions
  • Hidden Strife
  • Surfpiercer Challenge

Information on, and even screenshots of some of these tasks can be checked out below.

Evermotion Mechanical Painting

According to ‘Genshin Mains’, this task requires the restoration of six mechanical painting parts in the right places. As reported by ‘memetrollsXD’, the rewards for this task include Primos, Mora, ascension materials, and a new furnishing (believed to be the finished painting itself).

Reminiscent Regimen

There are a couple of conflicting reports on whether or not Reminiscent Regimen is a purely co-operative experience, or if it can be completed solo. ‘Genshin Mains’ reported that it was both back in May, though more recently ‘Genshin Intel’ has stated that it’s co-op only. Based on the recency of the information, we would be more inclined to go with the latter.

Resonating Visions

As per ‘Mero’, it looks like Resonating Visions involves collecting Phantasmal Conches in return for Primogems, Mora, and other goodies.

Hidden Strife

Surfpiercer Challenge

From the leaked UI, we can also expect a new Hangout Event, as well as a story quest which begins ‘Acer Palmatum’. Acer Palmatum is another name for the Japanese maple, leading many to believe this is Kazuha’s Archon Quest title.

Genshin Impact 2.8 Golden Apple Archipelago

For the first time since Genshin Impact 1.6, the Golden Apple Archipelago is set to return – and a lot has changed since we last visited the islands.

‘Rivnenie’ has also uploaded what appears to be footage of them exploring the islands as Heizou.

According to multiple leaks – though the veracity of them is currently sketchy – the islands will be a permanent feature on the Genshin map from here on out.

Genshin Impact 2.8 Diluc and Fischl skins

Back in February it was reported that Diluc and Fischl would both be receiving new outfits during Genshin Impact 2.8. According to UBatcha, Diluc’s is called ‘Red Dead of Night’, and Fischl’s ‘Ein Immernachtstraum’ – Google translates this to English as ‘An Evernight’s Dream’. You can check out the skins below.

In a Discord post, UBatcha has also shared an image of the castle on the Golden Apple Archipelago, and says “Fischl is finally getting time in the limelight after a long time.” With that said, the new Fischl skin name could easily be a reference to Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ – ‘Ein Sommernachtstraum’ in German – which is partially set in the court of Athens.

One of Shakespeare’s finest comedies, A Midsummer Night’s Dream is full of trickery and mischief. Though it’s definitely a stretch based on a simple skin name, it could also be an allusion to the sort of story thematic HoYoverse has in store for us when we return to the islands.

According to ‘Sagiri’, Diluc’s skin will cost 248 Yuan (198 discounted). With one Yuan getting you ten Genesis Crystals, that’s 2480 Genesis Crystals (1980 discounted). Converted into dollars, you’re looking at $40 at full price ($30 discounted).

While you’re patiently waiting for his skin to drop, you can at least enjoy some of the particle effects mined from the 2.8 beta, courtesy of Lumie.

And that’s all we have now for the main Genshin Impact 2.8 leaks so far. With plenty of information out there on the upcoming version, there’s a lot to sift through. Needless to say, we’ll be keeping a keen eye on other major developments and data mines leading up to the next version’s release date.
