Just six months to the day after Forza Horizon 5 launched, it appears that Forza Horizon 6 is now in development for Xbox at Playground Games.

Spotted by XGP (via PureXbox), the job listing for Playground Games says that they are “looking for a level designer to join our Forza Horizon team”. Further on it states that “you will be a part of the level design team on our next AAA title”. The listing also goes on to suggest that the project is in “pre-production” meaning that proper development on the game hasn’t started yet. Pre-production focuses on planning the core gameplay concepts and overall design.

The mention of Forza Horizon specifically does suggest that another game in the open-world racing series is on the way. And, the fact that they specifically mention the team rules out that this position is for the upcoming Fable game from Playground.

Turn 10 Studios is currently working on a reboot of Forza Motorsport, with many speculating that the hardcore racing sim will release later this year. This likely means that this next entry in the Horizon series from Playground is at least a year and a half away.

Although, Forza Horizon 5 received three years of development time. And, with the game only being in pre-production three years of development time seems more likely for the follow-up as well. This means it will likely release in 2024.

While a small team toils away on the next Forza Horizon game, the rest of Playground’s Forza team is likely working on the two DLC packs for Forza Horizon 5, which are yet to be announced. And, with Summer Games Fest around the corner, a reveal of what is next for Forza Horizon 5 might be around the corner. The DLC should hopefully keep you busy somewhat until the next game in the series releases.
