Finally, the wait for the Fortnite Solid Snake skin and Metal Gear Solid collab is over. However, it doesn’t end with the just the pre-announced battle pass content. Players on Xbox and PlayStation will get another dose of MGS goodness in Chapter 5 Season 1, as a surprise bundle featuring a Fortnite Raiden skin has been unearthed.
Following an update on January 23, the Metal Gear Solid-themed section of the battle pass is now unlocked and you can work your way towards getting your Solid Snake skin and all the other MGS-themed cosmetics on offer. Epic crossovers such as this one have helped Fortnite establish itself as one of the best battle royale games, and if you’re asking us, this might be one of our favorite videogame collabs in the game yet.
While the introduction of Solid Snake is exciting, it’s not unexpected. However, what is a surprise is that he isn’t the only iconic Metal Gear protagonist joining the party this season. Raiden and his luscious blond locks are looking for a Victory Royale too.
As part of an upcoming store bundle in the Gaming Icon Series, you’ll find a slick new skin for Raiden, who is the main protagonist of Metal Gear Solid 2 and hack-and-slash spinoff Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. He features both a masked and unmasked variant, and has a bespoke backbling that portrays his iconic sword, the High-Frequency Blade. You can check out the Fortnite Raiden skin below in the preview from dataminer and leaker ‘iFireMonkey’.
With both Raiden and Solid Snake dropping in, Metal Gear Solid fans are certainly eating good in Fortnite for the latter half of the season. But there’s a lot more arriving in this update than just Kojima-pilled cosmetics.
The main Fortnite map has evolved once again, with a lot of the snow and ice melting away. There are no major POI changes to report, but you’ll be seeing more green spaces than white from here on in.
The LEGO Fortnite mode is also getting several new or updated characters added. This includes a lot of LEGO-fied Marvel character skins for the likes of Wolverine, Thanos, and Scarlet Witch. LEGO Fortnite will also reportedly get a PvP setting enabled in the near future, which will give a new dimension to the currently PvE-only mode that is giving the best survival games a run for their money.
Lots of gameplay improvements have also been announced, including the addition of Launch Pads, new building parts, and the ability to ask villagers you don’t want in your town anymore to leave. You can see the full suit of changes in the official LEGO Fortnite patch notes here.
So as you can see, this is a pretty sizable update. However, we just can’t stop thinking about those Metal Gear skins. Speaking of, we recently wrote about how Raiden’s MGS spinoff, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, is a prime candidate for a remaster to inject new life into the hack-and-slash genre.
