Fortnite swapped velociraptors for the extraterrestrial in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 7. With UFOs that beamed players up from the map, teasers full of coded messages, crop circles, and a ‘they’re coming’ strapline, Fortnite’s alien-themed season was one to remember.

For the passover to Season 8, there was an equally memorable event for players to experience, brimming with incredible visuals, story twists, and action. So, here’s everything that happened in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 7’s event, and how it set things up for Season 8.

When was the Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 7 event?

The in-game event for the end of Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 7, titled Operation Sky Fire, took place on Sunday, September 12, 2021. Following the event, there was a period of around 13 hours of downtime before Season 8 kicked off on September 13.

The event lasted around 10-15 minutes, depending on how quickly certain elements were completed.

What happened in the event?

The Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 7 event saw a massive alien craft called The Mothership appear in the sky and beam players aboard. Here, they were met with the creepy halls of the extraterrestrial vessel, with aliens patroling.

Players then had to escape from the ship together before everything, including the mysterious purple cubes on board, came crashing down onto the Fortnite island. This changed the map going into the new season.

You can relive the event in the video below.

What changed for Season 8?

Following the destruction of The Mothership, the mysterious Cubes that powered it found a new home on the Fortnite island. At the start of Season 8, seven cubes (five purple, one blue, one gold) were scattered across the map, and would very slowly move their way around.

Areas of Mothership wreckage were also spaced out across the map, and around these crash sites, portals to a pocket dimension called The Sideways could be found. There you would fight Cube Monsters, which would drop parts to create Sideways weapons.

Well, that’s everything that happened in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 7’s incredible live event, Operation Sky Fire. Events like this one have secured Fortnite’s place as one of the best battle royales, and there’ll no doubt be many, many more in the future.
