Slick new Darth Maul Fortnite skin will cost more than just V-Bucks

Epic Games' sweet new Darth Maul Fortnite skin has hit the battle royale, but at a cost more than paid V-Bucks, on Xbox, PlayStation, PC, Switch, and mobile.

Star Wars Day is just-about upon us and Epic Games is celebrating by introducing a Darth Maul Fortnite skin to it’s popular battle royale shooter – alongside cosmetics for Revenge of the Sith’s Anakin Skywalker, Attack of the Clones’ Padme Amidala, and the franchise’s Phase 2 Clone Troopers. If you want to pick up the skin for this unfortunate Dark Lord of the Sith in Fortnite, though, you’re going to need more than just money – you’re going to need quite a bit of time.

That’s right, according to reliable Fortnite leaker ‘ShiinaBR‘, battle royale players looking to get their hands on the Darth Maul skin in Fortnite are going to have to complete an upgraded Star Wars event pass – something that’s going to cost 1,000 V-Bucks to upgrade and quite a bit of time to complete.

As you can see for yourself below, and in-game before too long, the Find The Force event coming to Fortnite introduces an 11-tier reward pass that offers players a series of interesting Star Wars-themed cosmetics and XP boosts. At Tier 11, on the Premium Reward Track, you’ll find Darth Maul.

Other free rewards include Grand Army of the Republic-themed back-blings, a Loading Screen featuring characters from Star Wars’ Prequel Trilogy, the Phase 2 Clone Trooper base cosmetic.

As for the paid rewards, players can look forward to a 104th Battalion Phase 2 Clone Trooper cosmetic – sporting the grey markings of Commander Wolffe’s unit – and a 332nd Company Phase 2 Clone Trooper – sporting the Ahsoka-inspired markings from The Clone Wars Season 7. Purchasing the Premium Reward Track also appears to unlock the “Coruscant Guard” Phase 2 Clone Trooper cosmetic; in Star Wars, these Clones would report to Commander Fox.

This is, without a doubt, a shame for fans of Darth Maul – but, it could be a lot worse. Fortnite Item Shop bundles often cost a lot more than 1,000 V-Bucks; so, if you’re planning to play a lot of Fortnite in the coming weeks, this is actually a much better deal than a straight Item Shop bundle.

If you want to unlock Maul, though, you will need to complete a series of in-game quests – specific to the Find The Force event – to unlock “Galactic Reputation”. However, if you want to bag the other cosmetics, you just need to head to the Item Shop with quite a few V-Bucks.

The Anakin Skywalker Bundle will set you back 2,100 V-Bucks and includes a Jedi Interceptor-inspired wrap and Glider, amongst other rewards. The Padme Amidala Bundle is also 2,100 V-Bucks and includes a Nubian Yacht glider amongst other cosmetics. Two Phase 2 Clone Trooper appearances are also up for grabs in the Item Shop for 800 V-Bucks – the ever-popular 501st Battalion (Commander Rex’s company), and the 212th Battalion (Commander Cody’s lot) are included here.

The Find The Force event is going to be available in Epic Games’ battle royale until May 23 at 06:00 PST / 09:00 EST / 14:00 BST – so, you don’t have as long as you might want to get stuck in and unlock Maul.

Fortnite is, without a doubt, one of the best battle royale games out there. We might not like the intense monetisation in Epic Games’ shooter, but we can’t deny that these cosmetics are very exciting. At least one of them is free to earn. If you want to make the most of your money, though, you should consider picking up the Fortnite Crew pass. This will give you 1,000 V-Bucks a month – and some great rewards. The May Fortnite Crew pack includes the current Rocket Pass, too – for example.
