It might not look like it all the time, but Epic Games is always innovating when it comes to Fortnite; the developer is constantly pushing the battle royale genre to new limits with live experiences, new mechanics, and in-game items that always seem to keep gameplay fresh. Chapter 4 Season 1 is a perfect example of this and we’re fully expecting Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 to be the same. However, as good as all the new content in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1 was, there are some things we can’t wait to see the back of. Yes, we’re talking about the wildly problematic Shockwave Hammer – and no, we’re not alone in this.
If you’re one of the fortunate souls to have not experienced the Shockwave Hammer in Fortnite, you’ll be interested to learn that this is – as the name suggests – a large hammer that players can use to unleash devastating shockwaves on enemies and structures. However, the Shockwave Hammer doesn’t just let you introduce a ground-based slam. Using this particular weapon, players can launch themselves up into the air – without fall damage – to then slam into the ground from above.
The Shockwave Hammer doesn’t have too many charges, thankfully, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t hugely problematic when it comes to being a balanced inclusion in this battle royale.
And, that’s just when it’s working properly. We wrote about how battle royale fans were shocked to see the Fortnite Shockwave Hammer disabled earlier in the year, but this wasn’t a shock at all. In fact, this was just one instance of a situation where the Shockwave Hammer has been wholly broken and – to some – game-ruining.
So, when Fortnite fan ‘ShiftyPHX‘ asked Reddit what “needs the yeet” in Chapter 4 Season 2, it came as no surprise to see so many comments suggesting that the Shockwave Hammer needs to be disabled and vaulted ahead of the next major update.
When this weapon was broken, it made the game near-unplayable and wholly unfair for those exploiting its’ bugs. And, when it works as intended, it’s devastating area of effect attach leaves little room for counter-play and – frankly – is a real annoyance. If you come across someone with more than one of these, you’re going to have a real tough time of winning your fight.
But, we just don’t know yet if this is going to be vaulted or not. We’d like to hope so, but Epic Games doesn’t often share information like this ahead of time and there’s no telling what it has up it’s sleeve for Chapter 4 Season 2 and beyond.
Still, you can find out about what else players don’t like here, but it looks like the newly-introduced Augments and the hurdling mechanic are both popular enough that Fortnite fans hope they stick around for the long-run.

If you’re someone who actually enjoys using the Shockwave Hammer, you can check out the best Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1 landing spots right here ahead of the next major update. It’s also worth familiarising yourself with all the Fortnite Augments; making use of these in-game is a lot of fun and there’s no telling if they’re going to make the cut when the next season rolls around.
