Forever Skies developer Far From Home has penned a new deal with Sony to bring the first-person post-apocalyptic survival game to PS5 consoles exclusively in 2024.
Having entered Steam Early Access back in June last year, fans of the best survival games – ourselves included – have been eager to know if Far From Home would be bringing it to consoles. Thanks to the developmental support and funding Far From Home says Sony is offering, it will now launch on PS5 the same day it leaves Early Access on PC with single-player and up to four-player co-op support.
“Far From Home has teamed up with PlayStation to focus on making Forever Skies the best it can be for its console debut,” gameplay lead Andrzej Blumenfeld states in a press release. “So, at the end of PC Early Access when we’re ready to release the full game, we’ll be launching it on PS5 for consoles.”
Where this leaves Xbox is currently unclear. According to Forever Skies’ Steam FAQ – last updated on January 10, 2024 – Far From Home still says that it will be coming to “the latest consoles.” While the latest news indicates that it will remain completely locked to PS5, similar to Sony’s deal with Stellar Blade developer Shift Up, timed exclusivity isn’t off the cards.
Set on a fictitious version of Earth that has been ravaged by an ecological disaster, Forever Skies requires you to scavenge resources from the dying planet to upgrade your airship base. You can check out the PS5 trailer below. As you can tell from the gameplay shown, Forever Skies is the perfect game if you love the likes of No Man’s Sky and Subnautica.
Regardless of Sony’s support, Forever Skies’ development appears to be progressing smoothly. Its most recent Steam patch, 1.4.2, introduced a whole host of quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes, as well as a new flashlight tool that can be equipped. The next major update, meanwhile, is slated for either March or April, and will bring with it a brand new story chapter, “complex airship gardening systems,” and more.
With another exclusivity deal in the bank, 2024 is getting better and better for PlayStation. For more of the latest PS5 news check out why we won’t be getting any “major” new PS5 games until 2025. While you’re still here, check out this gorgeous one-of-a-kind PS5 console you can win right now.
