Assassin's Creed developer Ubisoft is celebrating the anniversary of Far Cry 5 soon, and teases that a long-awaited feature is in the works for console players.

Far Cry 5 next-gen patch for PS5, Xbox

March 16, 2023 Ubisoft has officially confirmed the release of a Far Cry 5 60 FPS patch. The headline and body of this article have been updated to reflect this.

Get ready to return to Hope County and visit the villainous Joseph Seed again, because developer Ubisoft is celebrating the five-year anniversary of Far Cry 5. To mark the occasion the Watch Dogs developer, Ubisoft, is bringing a fan-requested feature to players, as an official Far Cry 5 60 FPS patch goes live for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S fans. Hope County is getting a brand-new coat of paint, but some players are eager for a popular Assassin’s Creed game to get the same treatment too.

Despite releasing back in March 2018, players are still returning to the mountainous valleys of Far Cry 5. As such, developer Ubisoft is already teasing its plans for the upcoming Far Cry 5 anniversary on social media. “Let’s celebrate the 5th anniversary of Far Cry 5. Over the next three weeks, celebrate the 5th Anniversary with us. Stay tuned for what’s to come, including a highly requested feature for next-gen consoles,” says the developer in a titillating Twitter post.

Now, Ubisoft confirms that a Far Cry 5 60 FPS is officially here. “Far Cry 5 in native 60 FPS, is now available on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 via a free patch […] the 60 FPS boost applies to all Far Cry 5 modes: solo campaign, co-op, Arcade, and all downloadable content,” says the developer. Additionally, Ubisoft details that ” a free weekend for Far Cry 5″ is coming and will run from March 23 to March 27 “on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, [and] PlayStation 4” consoles.

Previously, those seeking out Far Cry 5 on Xbox Series X|S consoles have had the benefit of the FPS boost feature to bring the game up to 60 FPS. The resolution of the game is dropped to 1080p from 4K, but nonetheless still looks great five years on after release.

Showing support for the title is gaining favour with Ubisoft fans, as some players note its attention to improving ageing titles. In particular, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag is on the list of Ubisoft games that fans are eagerly awaiting next-gen improvements for. “I’ll say this for Ubisoft, their recent support for older games is good. Now they just have to show [Assassin’s Creed] Black Flag some love,” says Redditor ‘KingofGrapes7‘.

“Man, that would be top! Just patch [the] resolution and give the game 60 FPS mode,” agrees ‘MikeTheDude23’. The Assassin’s Creed franchise has shifted its approach in recent years, but players like ‘Tempastaaaa‘ are still yearning for the classic Assassin’s Creed formula: “Can’t remember the last time I had that much fun with an Assassin’s Creed game. Black Flag was fantastic and definitely deserves an upgrade.”

Games such as Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Assassin’s Creed Origins have received next-gen upgrades on PlayStation 5, allowing both games to be played at higher framerates. With such a dense amount of detail packed into either game’s map, traversing them with a stable 60 FPS framerate enhances the adventure.

If you’re in the mood to revisit some older games or discover new ones, then the PS Plus Extra and Premium March 2023 games lineup will keep you busy.
