Destiny 2’s Vow of the Disciple is one of Bungie’s strongest raid offerings yet, with players solving puzzles and DPSing their way to an encounter with Rhulk. Now Rhulk is a strange-looking creature, but there’s an even weirder beast that players have found in Savathun’s throne world. It’s not necessarily weird in appearance, but weird because players have no idea why or how it got there.
Hidden away early on in the Vow of the Disciple raid (where you first find the payload you need to move for the first encounter) an unimpressed-looking owl can be spotted. But this is no space owl, or Hive owl. It’s just an owl. Like, from Earth. And somehow, it’s found its way into Savathun’s throne world.
We’re no ornithologists, but from some light research the owl ion question appears to be some kind of long-eared or great horned owl. Whatever it is, it is somewhat out of place.
As well as expressing their surprise that an animal of Earth is just chilling in Savathun’s swampy back garden, the Destiny 2 community have also come up with an endearing name for the owl.
While suggestions ranged from Owly McOwlface to Zavowla, the top-voted comment on the Reddit post about the owl from ‘Jozz’ was Rahoot – of course, a play on the name of everyone’s favourite Cryptarch, Rahool.
This mysterious bird may now have a name, but we’re still none the wiser as to what it is doing in Vow of the Disciple. But hey, if you like both Destiny 2 and birdwatching, we can’t think of a better easter egg.
