Some of the biggest names in Call of Duty esports have given their thoughts on Modern Warfare after having a full weekend to get to get to grips with the game.
Although Modern Warfare has topped Black Ops 4’s launch sales and has been one of the most streamed games on Twitch in its opening weekend, it’s receiving mixed reviews from competitive players. The general consensus appears to be that while gunplay is excellent, other aspects are letting the game down such as respawns, claymores, smoke grenades, and Infinity Ward’s new approach to a staple of any CoD title, the Dead Silence perk.
However, the biggest issue with Modern Warfare appears to be the quality of the map pool. A number of professional players have voiced their concerns that the maps are not enjoyable to play, that they are uncreative in their structure and some are even labelling them the worst maps in Call of Duty history.
Chicago’s Matthew ‘FormaL’ Piper said that he was loving Modern Warfare’s “satisfying” gunplay, but had some very strong words to say about the state of the maps.
Meanwhile, three-time CoD world champion Damon ‘Karma’ Barlow claimed that Modern Warfare has “some of the worst CoD maps ever,” but admitted that this is the only fault he has with the game.
Finally, New York Subliners’ Trei ‘Zer0’ Morris tweeted his frustrations and said that the maps were making it “impossible” to enjoy the game.
i cant believe the maps we are going to be playing this year, really liking snd but these maps are just making it impossible to really love the game

Infinity Ward has already shown that they are hearing and acting upon feedback after responding quickly to the issue of Dead Silence with a patch less than a week into the game’s life.
However, the biggest concern will be the maps as this is no quick fix. With several months between now and the start of the inaugural Call of Duty League in early 2020, there is at least time to bring out new maps. However, it is likely that maps for competitive play will come from the original map pool, which is why so many pros are unhappy.
