Modern Warfare 2 leaks suggest classic CoD maps returning as paid DLC

New Modern Warfare 2 leaks are coming thick and fast - this time around, one leaker has suggested that the upcoming shooter will be getting a paid DLC map pack

Modern Warfare 2 leaks paid DLC classic maps: an image of two soliders moving through an alleyway

We know we’re all sitting here patiently waiting for the Modern Warfare 2 release date to roll around, but that hasn’t stopped Call of Duty leakers and data miners from trying to uncover every morsel of information about the upcoming FPS game. And, while some of that leaked information is good information, that’s not always the case. For example, recent leaks suggest that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is going to get a paid map pack on top of its seasonal content.

Trusted Call of Duty leaker ‘TheGhostOfHope’ has shared that Infinity Ward are reportedly planning to release almost every Modern Warfare 2 (2009) map for Modern Warfare 2 (2022) at some point during its lifetime – suggesting that this could be what makes up the majority of the game’s Year Two content.

However, they have also added that there’s talk of Infinity Ward planning to release a paid map pack for the shooter. This “Greatest Hits Map Pack” would feature fan-favourite maps from past Call of Duty titles developed by Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and Sledgehammer Games. There’s no information detailing which maps would be included, if this is indeed the case, but that means we could see Shipment and Nuketown on the same Call of Duty game – at long last.

In addition to this, though, it means that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 players are going to have to pay extra if they want to access all the multiplayer maps available – something of an outdated approach to releasing new content for what is essentially a live-service FPS game.

Of course, before you go complaining about it all, it’s worth noting that none of this has been confirmed yet. So, take everything with a rather large pinch of salt until we hear more.

While releasing additional multiplayer maps for Modern Warfare 2 as DLC isn’t the worst idea when you consider the fact that this game is expected to have a two-year stream of content. However, you have to wonder whether people will actually pay for additional maps – and how the inclusion of a paid map pack is going to be reflected in the free content plan for what is sure to be one of the best competitive FPS games available.
