Activision always releases a beta before the release of a main series Call of Duty game, and Modern Warfare 2 is no different. During this time, you’ll be able to get a feel for those new mechanics, play around with the new MW2 Gunsmith that lets you tune each attachment, and ultimately decide whether this is the FPS game for you.

Modern Warfare 2 beta
Activision has confirmed that there will be a Modern Warfare 2 beta at some point before launch, as early access to it is one of the benefits of grabbing a Modern Warfare 2 preorder.
This will be a free open beta, and according to some small print on the Call of Duty website, will last a minimum of two days.
Modern Warfare 2 beta early access
You can get early access to the Modern Warfare 2 beta by pre-ordering any version of the game.
When you decide to drop some cash on a Modern Warfare 2 pre-order, you’ll be automatically granted early access to the Open Beta on the same platform you made the purchase. If you pre-ordered through a third-party retailer, you’ll be sent a code that you can redeem to grant you open beta access. Full details on how to do that can be found here.
Modern Warfare 2 beta dates
As revealed on the official Call of Duty website, the beta for Modern Warfare 2 will run from September 16-17 for PlayStation early access, and September 18-20 for all PlayStation players.
Then, the full crossplay beta for early access will run from September 22-23 and open to all players from September 24-26.

Activision has confirmed that your Modern Warfare 2 beta progress will not carry over to the full game.

The Modern Warfare 2 beta will be open to players on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
