With Sony reigning supreme in the superhero game landscape with Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man entries and the forthcoming Wolverine game, Marvel’s Blade is in an interesting place. As players begin to wonder what platforms the new Blade game will appear on, rumors continue to purport that it will be an Xbox exclusive. Now, Microsoft seems to be affirming this one step further on YouTube.
Out of all the new Xbox games on the horizon, we reckon that Marvel’s Blade is easily one of the big contenders to keep an eye on. And we say Xbox games specifically, because following Blade’s rumored Xbox exclusivity, Microsoft is now showcasing the trailer on the official YouTube channel. It may seem like a formality following The Game Awards, but the trailer’s lack of visibility on the PlayStation YouTube channel is something to be taking note of.
That’s because the Microsoft x Bethesda acquisition is a hefty reason to believe that the Arkane Lyon title is going to be an Xbox exclusive, rather than sharing console parity with PS5. As Microsoft, Bethesda, or Arkane Lyon refuse to comment on this, it feels odd to specifically withhold this decision. It’ll mark another major IP under the Bethesda banner staying put with Microsoft, as the upcoming Indiana Jones game is rumored for the same fate.
However, Axio journalist Stephen Totilo claims that it is down to Disney to answer the big question. Revealing that Disney only hinted toward Blade’s reveal at The Game Awards, Totilo says that Disney “hinted to me that I’d be hearing about another dream project that came more from the studio involved than from Disney (a la Indy, too). But the reveal was hours later. And when I followed-up, Disney told me that’s a question for Bethesda.”
Given that Sony is forging somewhat of a monopoly of its own with superhero games on the PS5 with the Spider-Man franchise, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Xbox aim for its own slice of the action. Of course, this could all just be harmless conjecture, and maybe PlayStation just hasn’t uploaded it due to Microsoft’s ownership of Bethesda.
However, if it is an Xbox exclusive, PS5 players are going to feel what Xbox owners have felt over the last few years as people have swung around in one of the best PS5 exclusives around.
