Does Armored Core 6 have crossplay?

Armored Core 6 crossplay would be an important feature for its multiplayer PvP mode, so will FromSoftware's new Armored Core game support cross-platform play?

Does Armored Core 6 have crossplay? Armored Core 6, the next entry in FromSoftware’s long running mecha warfare series, is nearly here, and it already looks to be one of the biggest games of the year. With high fidelity visuals, agile aerial combat, and massive bosses, it seems Armored Core 6 will be the one to bring the franchise back to the forefront after the mediocre critical and commercial reception of Armored Core 5. But will you be able to face off against friends on other platforms?

After around a decade of dormancy in the franchise, Armored Core is looking to make a triumphant return by taking on some Soulslike qualities for Armored Core 6 and getting the same level of production quality as FromSoftware’s more recent hit titles such as Elden Ring or Bloodborne. The Armored Core series traditionally focuses on a single-player story mode, but its multiplayer offerings have been consistently engaging and relatively balanced. Armored Core 6 multiplayer includes PvP battling, so players will no doubt be wondering if they’ll be able to utilize crossplay to take part in mecha duels across different systems.

Does Armored Core 6 have crossplay?

Armored Core 6 does not have crossplay. This means you can only play with the players on the same platform as you. So, PS5 players can only play with PS5 players and PC players can only play with PC players. There also isn’t cross-gen play between the same console family.

Although it is releasing on multiple platforms, it is sad, but not surprising to see the game not have crossplay. After all, Elden Ring didn’t. It is unlikely that the game will ever get crossplay either.

Unlike FromSoftware’s early partnerships with Sony that led to its games releasing almost exclusively on PlayStation consoles, Armored Core 6 follows its recent preference towards releasing games on several different current and past generation systems, as shown by Elden Ring, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Dark Souls 3.

With many developers prioritizing multi-platform releases due to the inherent increased sales and player accessibility, crossplay has also been on the rise recently and it’s a feature players are demanding more frequently. Bandai Namco, the publishers of Armored Core 6 and many of From Software’s other titles, will also soon be publishing fighting game Tekken 8 with crossplay supported from launch. Despite this, Armored Core 6 didn’t get crossplay.

The previous game in the series, 2013’s Armored Core Verdict Day, was released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and supported a multiplayer versus mode just like Armored Core 6. However, Verdict Day’s multiplayer could not utilize crossplay at all, limiting connections only to players on the same console, although this could be partly due to 2013 being early in the development of crossplay technology.

In more recent years, several of FromSoftware’s Soulsborne titles have also offered multiplayer in the form of duels between players or joining other players for a co-op adventure. Dark Souls 3 allowed players to use Summon Signs to summon others into their world to help out in a co-op style or initiate duels to the death. Bloodborne similarly gives players Resonant Bells to either summon an assisting player or invade another player’s world to hunt them down. Finally, FromSoft’s biggest and most recent title, Elden Ring, allows all of the above, letting players duel, work cooperatively, or invade each other using Summon Signs and a variety of Furled Finger-like items. However, none of these titles support crossplay, as players can only connect to others on the same console as themselves.
