Apex Legends PS5 and Xbox Series X|S update news coming “very, very soon”

With next-gen consoles over a year old, Respawn is preparing to share more on Apex Legends’ PS5 and Xbox Series X|S release soon

Apex Legends PS5 Version News: Mad Maggie with her fist clenched in Olympus

Apex Legends is one of the most popular free-to-play shooters available right now, and players on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S have been desperate for a native next-gen version. We know that there is one on the way this year after Apex Legends PS5 version was spotted on the PSN database, but other than that, little is known about Apex Legends’ next-gen update. However, we might not have much longer to wait.

During a media event, Apex Legends’ game director Steven Ferreira says that news on an Apex Legends next-gen update for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S is coming “very, very soon”, and hinted at some interesting details about how they plan to release next-gen features.

Discussing this further, Ferreira reveals that fans can look forward to Apex Legends “moving to a new native version [for] next-gen” that will come with a host of new features.

Interestingly, it doesn’t sound like Respawn is going to release all of Apex’s next-gen features at once. Ferreira highlights the fact that Apex Legends is a live service game, saying: “[Respawn] can continue to roll out new features, including next-gen as well”, with a plan in place for new features to arrive during “pretty much every season this year”.

It isn’t a lot to go on, we know, but it’s reassurance that a plan is in place. For fans questioning why Respawn has been so secretive about Apex Legends next-gen update, it looks like you won’t have much longer to wait. With Apex Legends’ Defiance update due to kick off Season 12 on February 8, there’s every chance we could hear something from Respawn before then.

Apex Legends’ initial launch was a surprise, with almost no pre-warning from Respawn and EA – could we see Respawn shadow-launch a next-gen version of Apex Legends a lot sooner than we think? It’s unlikely, but you never know.
