WWE 2K23’s commentators will roast you if you’re not playing

WWE 2K23 is here, it might be one of the best wrestling games we've seen so far, and there's new commentary dialogue that criticises players who go AFK.

WWE 2K23 commentary AFK dialogue: an image of the Rock in the wrestling game

It’s time to play the game (and by that, we mean it’s time you jump into WWE 2K23 not the Triple H intro song). Although, when it comes to this WWE game, it is sort of “all about the game and how you play it” – with improvements to MyGM, the Universe mode, Showcase, and MyRise, you have quite a few options. However, that doesn’t stop real life getting in the way and sometimes you’re going to need to go AFK while in the ring. We know it can’t be helped, but it looks like the WWE 2K23 commentary team have had just about enough of it; there’s a handful of new dialogue options that show they’re really not happy about you going AFK without pausing – and it’s quite funny.

Seemingly first posted by ‘ThisGenGaming‘ on Twitter, and reported here by The Gamer, the WWE 2K23 commentary team – which WWE fans will recognise as Michael Cole, Corey Graves, and Byron Saxton –  now have more unique dialogue for when all the players are AFK and inactive in the ring.

If you listen to the footage for yourself, which can be found below, you’ll see that they call for “disqualification on account of boredom”, with Micahel Cole shouting “hello” into “the void” in an effort to garner your attention.

We know this isn’t the most immersive bit of commentary, but it’s nice to see WWE 2K23 not taking itself quite as seriously as it could – especially when you consider the action figure and invisible John Cena variants included. And, who knows what other hidden commentary dialogue options are waiting to be found in WWE 2K23. It’s also, if anything, quite a realistic reaction from the commentary team – and something we would certainly find funny if it cropped up in a PPV.

You can check it all out for yourself below:

But, despite all that, we can’t help but feel as though the commentators should at least wait a little while before laying onto you with another complaint – all of these seem to happen in quick succession. We don’t know how long they have been waiting, but maybe it might be best to just pause your games when you can.

At the moment, we don’t know if there are any unique lines for specific members on the WWE 2K23 roster, but we can’t imagine there is when it comes to being AFK. Who knows, though, it might be worth checking out all the WWE 2K23 Showcase unlockables and rewards here anyway – just in case.

So, while we think that WWE 2K23 needs to give John Cena some more action figure pals, we also think that the commentary team should cool off a little bit when it comes to being AFK. If anything, these sorts of motionless stare-downs are all helping to build tension in the ring – right?

Well, alright, maybe not. But, still. Sometimes you just forget to hit the pause button – it’s not the end of the world.
