PAYDAY 3 has just had a massive update, packed with freebies, fixes, and new features. Changes have been made to the overall balance of the game, as well as to skills, weapons, enemies, and some more general quality-of-life fixes that round off the 1.1.0 update.
Coming out alongside the update is the game’s first DLC, Syntax Error, which puts players right in the middle of a high-tech heist, unraveling a web of conspiracy as they go. A veritable cache of powerful weapons and new outfits are also included in this jam-packed release. It also happens to be free for owners of the Silver, Gold, or Collectors Edition of PAYDAY 3. Standard edition owners can purchase it here, although, there is also a clever way to try it for free… Read on for all the juicy details of both the update and DLC.
Update highlights
We won’t keep you waiting, one of the main additions in the new update is the ability to join DLC heists even if you don’t own them. It’s a great way to try before you buy, and all you need to do is jump into a game with a friend who owns the DLC. It even works across multiple platforms.
As for new things, a new enemy, the Techie, has been added to the game, along with the Scrambler skill line. Linking thematically with the Syntax Error DLC (but available to all players), both these additions will add some high-tech flavor to PAYDAY 3 heists. The Techie, who uses deadly drones to snipe at your crew while hiding behind a refraction shield, will initially just appear in Syntax Error, but will eventually work their way into other heists as well. The Scrambler skill line will let players use their tech knowledge for hacking and using ECM jammers to execute the perfect heist.
PAYDAY 3 fans will also get some fresh apparel in this update, with a selection of new masks, like the Eyes of Shaggoth Mask, the Raider Mask, and the Shroud Mask.
Fixes and features
Aside from the many tiny tweaks here and there, the PAYDAY 3 team has been hard at work fixing some of the bugs that featured in the game’s release build. Auto-aiming and knife throwing have been tightened up, and connection stability has been greatly improved. So a bad connection or the auto-aim can no longer be used as an excuse for you not covering your exit properly.
Armor Repair Kits have been added to the game too, serving as a weaker version of the Armor Bag, and, like First Aid Kits, can be obtained by trading hostages, or from dead Dozers. They’ll repair an armor chunk but won’t restore a lost one, so while you shouldn’t rely too heavily on them, they’ll come in handy in a pinch.
The Collateral Control skill for Sharpshooters has been expanded to include environmental hazards like fire extinguishers and red barrels, meaning they won’t harm you, your crewmates, or civilians, allowing you to use the terrain to your advantage. The Enforcer’s Solid skill and the Manipulator’s Negotiator skill have also received updates, with the former no longer preventing melee damage, and the latter letting you negotiate for Armor Repair Kits.
You might also notice a skill change with Sentry Turrets, which will now take more or less time to pick up depending on whether they have overheated or not. Because you may not have brought oven mitts to your heist, turrets that are overheated will take 2.5 seconds to pick up, while cool ones will take one second, rewarding swift-footed players. A few other timing tweaks have been implemented – like the FBI van’s enemy respawn cooldown reduction has been increased from 20 to 50 seconds, and the damage done by several enemy types has been increased. The pressure on OVERKILL has been pushed even further, so crewmates looking for a real challenge have something unrelenting to sink their teeth into.
