Mario Strikers Battle League is almost here, releasing almost 15 years after the last entry in the Mario Strikers soccer series. It’s safe to say that a lot has changed in the Mario universe and, with the game only launching with 10 playable characters, fans are worried that their new fan-favourites aren’t going to make the team-sheet. Well, fear not, Mario fans. Nintendo has confirmed that Mario Strikers Battle League DLC characters are coming – and new leaks suggest that there’s going to be 10 of them to get your hands on, eventually.
Following the confirmation that there’s going to be a Mario Strikers Battle League free trials demo, Game Informer has reported that Nintendo has confirmed that Mario Strikers Battle League DLC characters are coming. However, they’re keeping understandably tight-lipped about things and we don’t know any other details about what fans can expect in terms of post-launch content.
Well, that isn’t entirely true – we do know a little more, just not from an official source. A datamine courtesy of Twitter user ‘Wipeoutjack7’ has revealed that the game’s code mentions another 10 characters could be coming to the Mario Strikers Battle League roster – at least.
As you can see for yourself below, Wipeoutjack7 has found a total of 20 character slots in-game.

When you consider the fact that Mario Strikers Battle League is launching with 10 playable characters, it’s not impossible to see this number doubled through post-launch content updates. And, when you look at the plethora of Mario characters we’ve seen in other sports titles, Nintendo has quite a few options to choose from.
The fact that Mario Strikers Battle League is getting DLC characters in post-launch content updates isn’t actually as surprising as you might think, though. Mario Tennis Aces has seen 14 characters added as post-launch content since its 2018 release and Mario Golf Super Rush players have been able to get their hands on an additional six golfers through free content updates.
Well, that’s all we know about Mario Strikers Battle League DLC characters so far. We might not know who’s joining the line-up just yet but the Mario Strikers Battle League release date is fast approaching, so we should find out soon.
