There’s no shortage of multiplayer first-person shooters on PC, running the gamut from hardcore battle royales to arcade run-and-gunners. But with the market being so saturated is there room for a shooter to come along and try something truly original? Developer Blue Isle Studios set out to do just that with LEAP.
This intense sci-fi shooter takes elements of your favourite FPS games like Halo and Call of Duty, and wraps them up in an unashamedly cool, futuristic aesthetic. As if the fast-paced combat wasn’t enough, you can also ride around on hoverboards, blasting away your enemies Marty McFly style.
If this sounds like something you would enjoy, then you’re in luck, as LEAP is about to get its very first free weekend. From April 27-30, gamers on PS4, PS5, and Xbox can all leap into LEAP and try out its exciting and visceral gameplay for themselves completely free of charge. PC gamers get an even longer trial, with the free play period lasting until May 3. With plenty of new players joining the fight, you won’t want to miss this.
Made in the UGC
Along with fast-paced, fluid combat, LEAP is separated from the shooter crowd with its focus on user-generated content. LEAP encourages users to create their own mods, which can be uploaded and enjoyed by players around the world, creating almost endless possibilities for the future of the game.
Here are a few of our favourite user-created servers that are providing some raucous fun this weekend.
OnlyDragons
This ridiculously fun mode swaps out LEAP’s aerial vehicles for dragons, allowing you to soar through the skies, smiting your enemies with red-hot fire breath. Feel free to turn on your mic and do your best Khaleesi impression, while your foes burn alive.
Fiesta
The only rule is: there are no rules! Fiesta sees you spawn with a random loadout and vehicle every time you die. Adapt and survive the chaos, if you can.
One in the Chamber
The classic one-shot-kill mode is back. Start with one bullet and make it count. Every hit kills and earns you another bullet. See how many kills you can rack up, but don’t get stuck without any ammo. If you do run out, you can still redeem yourself with a bare-handed kill, but you’ll have to dodge those deadly bullets in the process.
Snipers vs Runners
That age-old rivalry is reignited in LEAP. Who can score the most kills – rushers with semi-autos and fists, or snipers camping in a vantage point? Played on a vertical, parkour-based map, this mode will test your positioning as well as your aim. Move fast to stay alive.
Hardpoint
In this mode, weapons are changed every two and a half minutes based on player votes. Try out every weapon and don’t get too attached.
The Hell of the Mercenaries
How long can you survive when the floor is lava? Fight your opponents and the environment in this riotous mode.
