04/04/2023 The headline and text of this article have been updated to reflect the recent release of new information about Modern Warfare 2 Season 3 and its’ content.
We know we’ve all got our favourites when it comes to weapons in Modern Warfare 2 – and the Call of Duty series as a whole – but we think it’s fair to say that the intervention from Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (2009) is one of the best sniper rifles the franchise has ever seen. So, that’s why a recent leak reaffirming that a Modern Warfare 2 Intervention could be coming to the current Call of Duty multiplayer game and Warzone 2 in the future is very exciting. And, now it’s been confirmed.
For well over a year now, long before Modern Warfare 2 had even launched, leakers have been claiming that the iconic sniper rifle was going to feature in one way or another. This tweet from Call of Duty leaker ‘TheGhostofHope‘ from April 2022 is just one example of that.
However, that’s not all. The Intervention was actually spotted in-game briefly by ‘CharlieIntel‘ in October 2022, showing up as a weapon blueprint in the backpack UI. As you might imagine, calls for this weapon’s appearance have been ongoing since then.
So, thankfully, it looks like there’s a little more evidence to suppport claims that it will be coming to Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 at some point.
Call of Duty data miner and leaker ‘TaskForceCodW‘ has shared a list of file names currently sitting in Modern Warfare 2 – each of which supposedly relating to an upcoming weapon. As you can see below, working out what some of them are isn’t quite as easy as you might think. It looks like Kali Sticks are making a comeback at some point alongside another type of sword-based melee weapon, but the rest are just codenames.
Thankfully, this leaker has collaborated with ‘Game Over‘ and used prior leaks and rumours to put together a list of what each weapon could be – and the Intervention is on it.
If you follow this Twitter thread, you’ll see that we could see the Tec-9 burst-fire SMG return alongside the XM7 assault rifle, the WA-2000 sniper rifle, the iconic ACR, and – of course – the Intervention.
Following this, we now know that the Intervention is making a comeback in Modern Warfar 2 under a new name: the FJX Imperium. You can check out some early footage of this weapon in action below:
Is this going to be one of the best Modern Warfare 2 guns when it drops? Who’s to say, but we’d like to hope the guaranteed hit of nostalgia it would give players would be enough to convince Infinity Ward to introduce it. We do think that Modern Warfare 2 should ban killstreaks from Shipment 24/7, though – so, nostalgia isn’t necessarily something this FPS game needs. The current season is due to end soon, so we should know more about what’s next for Modern Warfare 2 – officially – shortly.
