It’s finally happening, people! EA and Koei Tecmo are showing us some extended Wild Hearts gameplay at long last and it looks insane. If you’re wondering why things look a little familiar, though, it’ll be because the Wild Hearts gameplay looks like a Ghost of Tsushima Monster Hunter mashup with Breath of the Wild features and a dusting of Fortnite for good measure. Basically, this looks like one of the most exciting upcoming games at the moment – and we can’t wait to get our hands on it.
If you’re familiar with the Monster Hunter franchise, you’ll be well aware of what this means for Wild Hearts’ gameplay loop. From what we’ve seen so far, it revolves around you and your buddies taking on larger than life mythical beasts with all manner of wonderful weapons, carefully constructed contraptions, and devastating attacks.
However, the vibes it gives off are far more immaculate than any one game. From the way the player characters move to the breathtaking vistas, it’s clear that Sucker Punch Productions’ Ghost of Tsushima has had some influence here. However, that’s not the only other game we’ve spotted some similarities to in our first proper look at Wild Hearts’ gameplay.
Looking at the footage, which you’ll be able to see below, we feel like there are quite a few traversal mechanics and movement features that seem somewhat similar to what you’d see in Nintendo’s Breath of the Wild – another excellent game. Then, you could even argue that Koei Tecmo is borrowing a little from Epic Games and Fortnite when it comes to the game’s building mechanics – although, they’re not quite the same as the battle royale.
We know that throwing all of these different games and their mechanics together sounds like it could result in a bit of a mess, but the core Monster Hunter-inspired gameplay loop keeps everything focused and results in something that could be very good – especially when you consider the fact that this is going to have co-op multiplayer action.
We know we’re still sitting here waiting for confirmation on whether Wild Hearts is coming to PS4 and Xbox One or not, but we should know a lot more about this wonderful-looking hybrid hunter from EA and Koei Tecmo when the Wild Hearts release date arrives. Is it going to be one of the best PS5 RPG games – or one of the best Xbox RPG games – when it drops? We don’t know, but it’s certainly looking good.
