The Twitch community was sad to see one of its most iconic emotes, PogChamp, retired from service this week following controversial tweets from Ryan ‘Gootecks’ Gutierrez, the person depicted in its original design.
However, as an emote and “sentiment” close to streamers’ hearts, Twitch has acted quickly in bringing the emote back in a new form. Off the back of a suggestion from former StarCraft player and caster Sean ‘Day’ Plott, Twitch has announced that from January 8 onwards, the PogChamp emote will rotate every 24 hours to depict a different face pulling the famous expression. At the time of writing, we’re not sure who the lucky chosen one is as the subject of the first PogChamp, but he certainly embodies the spirit of the old emote.
Twitch has given no timeframe on when the daily rotation of PogChamp will end, as it simply says “for now” in its announcement tweet. It could be a week if users turn on it, or it could be forever. Who knows?
While some users appear initially unimpressed, the prospect of a fresh new face for the emote every time you log into Twitch has been applauded by many.
Twitch is taking Day9’s idea (for now) and using a new PogChamp face every day, starting today

It is encouraging to see Twitch not only acting so swiftly to rectify the issue, but also listening to the community for inspiration in the process.
