Twitch is giving its most hardcore fans more benefits for their Tier 2 or Tier 3 subscriptions, including more emote slots and Badge Flairs, to differentiate them from regular subscribers.
The initiative has likely been made to close the massive gap most streamers currently experience whereby the overwhelming majority of their subscribers are with Tier 1 or Twitch Prime subs. By giving the bigger spenders more bang for their buck, they may be tempted to part ways with some more cash when they next sub to their favourite streamer. The first big change Twitch has made is giving Partnered streamers four extra emote slots for each tier. This means those subbing at the very highest tier will have access to eight more emotes than someone at Tier 1.
The second benefit is that Tier 2 and 3 subscribers can now get access to emote modifier filters which changes the appearance of a streamer’s current lineup of emotes. This will make top tier subs stand out further in chats as their emotes will have a different look to those peasants in Tier 1.
Finally, a new feature called Badge Flair is being made available for all Twitch Partners and Affiliates. This is an overlay of a small icon that will sit on top of a sub badge, making Tier 2 and 3 subs stand out from the crowd.
The default for this icon is currently a gold star, but the Badge Flair is fully customisable for streamers to make it into whatever they want.

These changes are all aimed at making sure those who spend extra cash on a channel sub feel like they are more recognisable than your average subscriber. Tier 1 subs currently cost just $4.99, with Tier 2 and Tier 3 costing $9.99 and $24.99, respectively.
If the new benefits can make subbing at a higher tier more attractive, it means more cash in the steamer’s pocket, as well as Twitch’s.
