In her attempt to raise half a million dollars for her newly announced wildlife education project, Twitch streamer and conservationist Maya ‘Maya’ Higa put together a charity auction full of crazy lots from the world of streaming.
While highlights of the auction include Nick ‘Nmplol’ Polom winning his own shoes for $3,000, the most highly-prized lot was won by Ludwig ‘Ludwig’ Ahgren for an eye-watering $53,000. So what did Ludwig splash out on? An hour in the presence of streaming royalty: Michael ‘shroud’ Grzesiek.
Ludwig was clearly desperate to get the chance to run some games with his idol shroud – who also took part in the auction by winning a date with ‘Esfand’ for $11,000 – but the realisation of how much he’d spent hits him as soon as Matthew ‘Mizkif’ Rinaudo brings down the gavel to end the bidding. “Oh fuck, do I have to pay them?” Ludwig says. “Oh I think I fucked up.”
However, shortly after he won his hour with shroud, any regrets were soon forgotten as Ludwig checks his Twitter account to find the one notification he’s been chasing for some time: A follow from the man himself.
The shroud-mania continued later in the auction, as two signed Cloud9 jerseys worn by the streamer back in his pro Counter-Strike days sold for around $8,000 each. The sale of the second jersey also tipped the total amount raised from the stream over the half a million dollar target, which saw Maya stick to her promise that she would shave her head.
All in all, it was a successful night for Maya and her new charity project, and even though he’s gonna need a fair few subs to recoup the money, Ludwig walked away with what he wanted too.
