The team groups for Pop Flash, the final Valorant Ignition Series event of the year, have been revealed. The event will be hosted by B Site, the organisers best known for the their Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournaments, and will look to end the series on a high.
Valorant made its debut on the esports scene this year, and is already seeing an upwards trajectory. The finale of the previous Ignition Series event was the game’s most watched broadcast yet, reaching almost 175,000 as TeamSoloMid edged out Sentinels.
What will have pleased developers Riot Games most though was not just the figures, but the spectacle viewers were treated to. The final went down to the wire, and eventually finished 14-12 after some stunning play by TSM, particularly Matthew ‘Wardell’ Yu, who scored three of the five final kills. The game showed Valorant’s viability as an esport to a huge crowd, and with Pop Flash, B Site will be looking to continue that positive momentum.
The teams will initially compete in two groups:
- Team Envy
It’s a draw which keeps the finalists of the previous two tournaments apart – Sentinels defeated Cloud9 and lost to TSM respectively – but still throws up a some interesting matchups, especially with storylines and rivalries still developing as Valorant continues to establish itself on the world stage.
Christine ‘Potter’ Chi, Alex ‘Mauisnake’ Ellenberg, Daniel ‘ddk’ Kapadia, Erik ‘DoA’ Lonnquist, Alexander ‘LeX’ Deily, Chris ‘Puckett’ Puckett, Alex ‘Goldenboy’ Mendez, and Rivington ‘Rivington’ Bisland III will cast the event, which runs from August 26 to August 30. The prize pool stands at $50,000, and due to the ongoing pandemic, the tournament will be played online from the players’ homes.
