B Site, the organisers best known for their Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament Flashpoint, is joining the Valorant scene. It will host the final North American Ignition Series for Riot Games’ agent shooter.
The tournament will run between August 26 and August 30, and will consist of eight teams: Cloud9, Dignitas, Team Envy, Gen.G, Immortals, Team SoloMid, Sentinels, and T1. It will mark B Site’s first Valorant event, and will be hosted, casted, and analysed by Christine ‘Potter’ Chi, Alex ‘Mauisnake’ Ellenberg, Daniel ‘ddk’ Kapadia, and Erik ‘DoA’ Lonnquist, amongst others.
The Valorant esports scene is still fledgling, but has huge potential and appears to be on an upwards trajectory. The most recent NA Ignition Series, which saw Team SoloMid defeat Sentinels after a closely fought match with several twists and turns, was the most watched broadcast yet. Riot Games and B Site will be hoping that this one can pull in even more, especially with B Site’s experience from Flashpoint.
It’s not just in North America where Valorant is growing either. FunPlus Phoenix has recently expanded out of China to enter the European Valorant scene, as the game’s global reach continues to extend.
Aside from the Ignition Series, Valorant doesn’t have many major esports events in the calendar right now, so signing up B Site is a shrewd move on Riot Games’ part. Previous Ignition Series events have been hosted by Red Bull, T1, FaZe Clan, G2 Esports, and We Play! Esports.
The prize pool is $50,000, and after their previous win, you’d think TSM is the team to beat.
