With Sentinels reigning supreme at the top of the Valorant world right now, much of the team’s success can be attributed to the exceptional sentinel play from Michael ‘dapr’ Gulino. Considered by most to be the best-in-class right now, dapr is renowned for his mastery over agents like Cypher, Killjoy, and Viper.
However, at Valorant Champions Tour Masters 3 Berlin, a new challenger will attempt to take the title of best sentinel player away from dapr. Enter Gambit Esports’ Ayaz ‘nAts’ Akhmetshin. nAts showed up in a big way during the Stage 3 EMEA Playoffs, with the Russian putting in MVP performances against fellow regional representatives G2 Esports and SuperMassive Blaze.
The comparisons between nAts and dapr have been made consistently in the leadup to Berlin, and for good reason. A cursory look at both dapr and nAts’ stats shows remarkable similarities both in their agent pools and proficiency with each. Both players could be easily mistaken for Cypher one-tricks, with the pair commandeering the man with the cam to a 75%+ win rate over the majority of their maps played. However, their Killjoy and Viper stats are also exemplary, with nAts winning 77.3% of maps on KJ, and dapr a whopping 90.9% on Viper.
When asked what he made of the comparisons to dapr, as well as his own take on the player, nAts’ sentiments were characteristically short and to the point. “He’s a really good player for sure,” he tells The Loadout during a press conference, “and the best sentinel right now. But I hope this tournament will decide who is the better one.”

With a clear message sent by the Gambit man, we’ll be eager to see the outcome should the two meet during this week’s tournament. VCT Masters 3 Berlin kicks off today at 8am CST / 2pm BST with an all-EMEA showdown between Acend and SuperMassive Blaze.
