Call of Duty League reveals dates for $4.6 million Championship

Get the diaries out!

Call of Duty League

Get out your diaries CoD fans as the Call of Duty League has just revealed the dates for its first Championship. While fans will look back fondly on Champs events from the old Call of Duty World League, it’s now time to witness the first of the franchise era – and it will all kick off next month.

The Championship will begin with the Playoffs, which will see all 12 CDL teams seeded and competing to be one of the final four teams left standing. The playoffs will begin on August 19 at 12:00 PT (15:00 ET/ 20:00 BST) and conclude on August 23. The Playoffs will be a double-elimination bracket tournament, with teams progressing further down the brackets (and thus have fewer games to play to reach the top four) depending on how highly they placed in the CDL table.

Then the following weekend on August 29-30, the top four teams from the Playoffs will battle it out at the Championship Weekend and one of them will walk away with the top prize and the title of world champion.

Call of Duty League has made this graphic to show you how the format will work and what dates each fixture is being held.

In an exciting twist, all matches played in the Championship Weekend will be best-of-nine series, rather than the usual best-of-five.

The coverage of the Championship will also have a Viewership Incentive Program in which, according to a press release, “a new set of Champs-specific viewer rewards will be rolled out, giving fans the chance to earn in-game rewards while enjoying the live Call of Duty League matches on CallofDutyLeague.com or via the Call of Duty Companion App. Details about what these rewards are will be revealed at a later date.

Only two Home Series events remain in the regular season, meaning teams are running out of time to rack up CDL points.

Currently, Atlanta FaZe leads the way with 250 points, while Seattle Surge and LA Guerrillas are tied at the foot of the table with 50 points.

The action from the final Home Series events, as well as the Playoffs and Championship Weekend, can be watched on the Call of Duty League YouTube channel.
