The*gameHERs announces first-ever Women in Gaming Awards

The awards ceremony hopes to celebrate and empower women, femme-identifying, and non-binary gamers.

The*gameHers has announced its first award show dedicated to celebrating women in gaming spaces. The platform aims to “amplify and center” the voices of women, femme-identifying gamers, and non-binary gamers through connectivity and support. The company hopes that The*gameHERs Awards will further elevate these gamers and promote positivity.

The awards ceremony will take place on November 19 on the*gameHERs’ Twitch channel, but nominations for 25 awards across five categories are open now. The categories are Community, Content Creation, Esports, Gaming, and Industry.

The*gameHERs team will have the final say on nominations, selecting three finalists for each award in advance of the ceremony. Leading up to the event, the*gameHERs is hosting eight weeks of event streams featuring prominent women in games, kicking off by chatting cosplay with ‘Shellanin’. They will also discuss creating better communities with Kitfox Games’ Victoria Tran, and consider the difficulties facing women in esports with streamer and esports personality Katie Bedford.

Bedford will also host the awards ceremony in November, and says she is “honoured and excited” to be offered the opportunity. “To be able to connect with women on this platform and celebrate their uniqueness is such an extraordinary moment and milestone for the community. There is so much to uncover within the female gaming world and this is only the beginning!”

Heather Ouida, CEO and co-founder of the*gameHERs, reiterates that this is just the start for women in gaming and esports spaces. “I’m so thrilled to expand our network of close-knit, powerful and badass women with the rest of the world and celebrate strong vivacious women in the gaming space through our upcoming awards series.”
