We can’t imagine that Embark Studios’ The Finals is going to be the final free-to-play FPS game you’ll play, but it certainly could be one of the most entertaining – at least for quite a while. Why are we making such a bold claim? Well, The Finals’ closed beta playtest is here and those who have jumped into the game already are showcasing just how chaotic this game is going to be online. If you want to know what we’re talking about, we’re going to say two words: chair turret.
Now, we know that – on the by and large – the words ‘chair’ and ‘turret’ aren’t really a pair of words that mean anything to anyone. However, when you’re playing The Finals, ‘chair turret’ actually means a turret on a chair. That you can then carry around with you. And, you know, devastate your opponents with.
In a tweet captioned “how to easily auto aim for anyone”, this Japanese content creator shared a clip of The Finals where they do exactly that – and it looks hilarious. Sure, it all seems quite simple when you boil it down to brass tacks, but we can’t help but think this is just the start of the mayhem this FPS’ unique gameplay is going to usher in.

Now, if Chair Turret doesn’t convince you that this FPS game is going to be a lot of fun to play around in, all you need to do is take to The Finals’ Twitch clips page; there are so many clips of pure chaos, it’s hard not to want to play this game.
For example, here’s a clip of ‘mura_vr’ accidentally killing their squad with a rather effective bridge demolition job. We don’t know about you, but we’re not even sure we could be annoyed if something like this happened – because it’s pretty hilarious.
If you’re looking for something a little more action-packed, how about this clip from ‘A_Seagull’ that shows this content creator and their squad riding a hover-train of sorts through The Finals. We don’t know about you, but this is the perfect representation of the hype train we’re currently on when it comes to this FPS game.
However, not everyone is quite as impressed as we are with what we’ve seen when it comes to The Finals. For example, content creator Michael ‘Shroud’ Grzesiek has had his say on Twitch, saying that quite a lot of the game is “a**” at the moment.
But, as he explains, a lot of this is what they’re testing with the beta – and we certainly think this has potential to be one of the best FPS games out there.
