Embark Studios continues to tinker away crafting The Finals‘ next major seasonal update, but before we learn where the arena shooter will take us to next, there’s an important matter we need to address: the drip. Sure, Embark has given us some excellent threads to wear in battle, but what about some dapper facial hair options? It looks like The Finals Season 4 could answer this question.
In a brand-new ‘leak’ from The Finals‘ official Discord server, Embark Studios’ co-founder Rob Runesson cheekily drops a fresh look at upcoming customization feature. “The prototypes are getting pretty good, [there’s still] a lot of setup and tweaks left,” Runesson teases. However, fans of the PS5 and Xbox FPS game may be waiting a little while longer though, as Runesson suggests facial hair will come to The Finals in “the next season or so.”
I previously spoke to Embark Studios at the start of The Finals Season 2, as like you, I’ve been itching not just my beard in real-life, but my digital chin wondering if Embark would deliver the feature soon. Despite an attempt to get Embark to comment further on beards, goatees, and mustaches, creative director Gustav Tilleby simply says: “keep your eyes peeled.” And peeled they have been throughout Season 2 and the multiplayer game‘s recent Season 3 launch.
What I’m curious about is whether Embark will launch the addition of facial hair with an array of free options, as many of the game’s more appealing cosmetics are unlocked through spending Multibucks (real money), the battle pass, or completing free challenges. All of these options are likely to be part of the rollout for facial hair, but I’d also like to see the inclusion of extra colorways for existing hairstyles too.
Crucially, Runesson’s mention of saving this feature for Season 4 has me thinking about the bigger picture. What will be the seasonal theme going forward? Each update has teased a world beyond the virtual reality walls of The Finals’ game-show concept, and maybe we’ll start to see more of the in-universe figureheads that are keeping the lights on financially.
Could we also see vehicles finally get their grand debut too? I’m still clinging onto hope that will be the case.
