Japanese teenager Sota ‘Zackray’ Okada was the surprise winner of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament at Big House 9.

The 17-year-old, who represents GameWith, battled his way through the losers bracket to reach the final, where he was the 3-1 winner victor against Team Liquid’s Samuel ‘Dabuz’ Buzby. As the winning blow was dealt to Dabuz by Zackary’s R.O.B., the Japenese leapt from his chair with his arms to the sky before turning to face the elated crowd and sinking to his knees in disbelief. He then broke down in tears while being presented with the trophy.

This was Zackray’s first win at a Premier Smash event and he walked away with just over $4,000 in prize money. His incredible Big House experience didn’t stop there either as he also won the Ultimate Doubles event alongside fellow Japanese player Shuto ‘Shuton’ Moriya to completely steal the show in the Ultimate events.

He also appeared to become a crowd-favourite over the course of the weekend, with wild celebrations in the audience after he defeated Dabuz in the final.

Zackary’s next test will be Thunder Smash 3 in California which will be played this Saturday, October 12.
