Twitch streamer Ben ‘DrLupo’ Lupo is renowned on the platform for his charity work, but he’s about to go one step further. While it will be officially announced today, November 20, DrLupo confirmed to his chat yesterday that he will no longer receive any income from Twitch donations, and all tips will instead be diverted to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
DrLupo has worked closely with St. Jude’s for a number of years, having raised millions for the hospital across a number of special fundraiser streams. Now though, he’s making a long-term commitment.
Thanking his fans for putting him in a “really good financial position,” DrLupo goes on to reveal that while viewers can donate to get messages read out and appear on stream, he will not be taking a penny of them and will send them St. Jude’s way instead. DrLupo also hat tips another of Twitch’s biggest streamers, Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys, who earlier this month revealed she would be capping donations to her channel at $5 after becoming financially comfortable.
DrLupo says that, going forward, the best thing he can do with his channel is to “help impact people in a positive way” now that he’s reached this point in his streaming career.
He goes on to explicitly confirm that this initiative is permanent and will be “forever, until I quit streaming.”
While donations will no longer end up in DrLupo’s pocket, he states that all other revenue generators on Twitch, such as subscriptions – of which he currently has over 18,000 – will still create income for him.
