Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is the upcoming third-person shooting platformer game from Insomniac Games. Faced with not only another console exclusive, but also continuing a long dynasty of Ratchet and Clank games, there is a lot of pressure resting on Insomniac’s shoulders.
Expectations are high, as the portal-jumping mechanic hopes to utilise the PS5’s superior SSD to instantly load new worlds without so much as a loading screen. Whether it will be one of the best PS5 games remains to be seen, but if it lives up to everything it has promised, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart will test the limits of the new-gen console.
From early trailers, we know that long-time nemesis Dr Nefarious has obtained a device known as the dimensionator. The impressive-sounding device is capable of shifting dimensions and presumably has created the rifts that will set Rift Apart apart from previous entries in the series. The Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart release date is set for June 11. The game will be available on the PlayStation 5 only.

Ratchet and Clank: RIft APART PS5 Gameplay
We’ve seen a few splashes of gameplay since Rift Apart was announced, showcasing everything from combat to the instant loading of worlds through portals.

Insomniac’s rather blunt tweet puts to bed any rumours about Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart coming to last-gen consoles. The game seems to have been designed with the PS5 in mind, from the titular rifts requiring significant SSD power to any use of the DualSense adaptive triggers.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart new character
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is introducing a new Lombax – that’s the species of animal that Ratchet is. Her name is Rivet, and she’s a resistance fighter like Ratchet from another dimension. Ratchet and Rivet are both out to take on Dr Nefarious, albeit they seem to be separated in every trailer we’ve seen so far.
We imagine they’ll meet at some point in the game (surely, right?), but the gameplay trailer focusing on Rivet shows that Ratchet has been separated from Clank, and our robotic friend seems to be teaming up with Rivet instead.
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart pre-order bonuses
If you pre-order Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart at participating retailers, you’ll receive early unlocks of the Pixelizer Weapon as well as the Iron Man-esque Carbonox Armour set seen above.
However, you can also pick up the Digital Deluxe Edition, which also includes five armour sets: the Imperial, Scavenger, Android, Rebel, and Hacker suits. You’ll also get a sticker pack to use in the game’s photo mode, 20 Raritanium (that’s in-game materials), and a digital soundtrack and art book.
