PS Plus gives you your pre-Monster Hunter Wilds fix on PS5 this month

With Monster Hunter Wilds, Anno 117, and Lego Horizon Adventures on the way, the PS Plus June 2024 line-up is full of must-play precursors on PS4 and PS5

PS Plus Extra and Premium enjoyers, you’re in for a real treat on PS4 and PS5 this month. Not only has PlayStation rolled out 14 top-quality titles for you to enjoy from Tuesday, June 18, but the PS Plus June 2024 line-up is also setting you up for some of the biggest games set to hit the platform over the coming months such as Monster Hunter Wilds, Anno 117: Pax Romana, and, at a push, Lego Horizon Adventures.

So, how is PlayStation offering up the perfect prep package for this trio of new PS5 games? Well first up we have the “impressive but imperfect” Monster Hunter Rise – that is, according to our solid 8/10 Monster Hunter Rise review. Having finally arrived on PS4 and PS5 last year, Rise is Capcom’s latest beastie-slaying installment in the iconic videogame series.

“Monster Hunter Rise’s fights are as enjoyable as ever with vastly expanded combat thanks to the new Wirebug,” we write. “However, the removal of tutorials and an overabundance of systems means the game isn’t as approachable as it could be.” Despite its foibles, Rise remains one of the best RPG games you can get your hands on, and is a must-play ahead of Monster Hunter Wild’s eventual release date.

Next up we have Anno 1800, which also finally debuted on console last year. Categorically one of the best city-builders out there, Anno 1800 pulls in features from across its nearly 20-year run. It also just so happens to be set during my favorite period of history – the Industrial Revolution. Pointless Aaron lore tidbit: I used to work on an old Victorian warship, so you know for a fact that my vouch is good for it. With Anno 117: Pax Romana setting sail next year, get your Anno hours in now.

Finally, and this is a bit of a stretch (allow it, please), we have two Lego games joining the PS Plus games list: Lego The Hobbit and Lego The Incredibles. If you’re being precious about it, these technically aren’t prequels to Lego Horizon Adventures in any sense. However, if you’ve somehow never been subjected to the absolute delight that is the Lego videogame series, then both installments serve as solid entry points. Perhaps more importantly, if you’ve never seen The Lord of the Rings and/or The Incredibles, then those sins should be rectified ASAP.
