So, picture this: I'm sitting here, minding my own business, when suddenly my inbox lights up like it's ready to take on Bowser himself. And there it is, the beacon of hope in the form of a digital code – Super Mario Odyssey, ready to whisk me away on another epic adventure!
Now, let's talk about the delivery process. It was like waiting for your Warp Pipe to show up at the right time – a mix of anticipation, excitement, and wondering if it got stuck in the Warp Zone. I had my virtual cap ready, my mustache freshly groomed, and my Switch charged to the max. And then, there it was! The digital code, nestled in my inbox like a shiny Power Moon. It was like receiving a gift from a mushroom-loving Santa Claus.
But of course, the fun doesn't stop there. The moment of truth had arrived. With trembling hands (and a bit of overexcitement), I entered the code. It was like inputting a secret cheat code to unlock the ultimate gaming experience. The anticipation was so real that if I had a real-life hat to throw, I'd have chucked it to the moon and back.
And then, poof, just like magic, my Switch transformed into a portal to the Mushroom Kingdom. Super Mario Odyssey loaded faster than a Goomba spotting Mario coming down the path. The rush of nostalgia hit me like a giant green pipe – I was back in the game, stomping Goombas, flinging my hat around, and collecting Power Moons like they were going out of style.
So, here's the review in a nutshell: This digital code delivery was like Mario himself, delivering joy, adventure, and nostalgia to my virtual doorstep. It's like the Mushroom Kingdom's version of Amazon Prime – instant gratification for your gaming soul. And if you're wondering if the game is great, well, duh, it's Super Mario Odyssey! But this review isn't about the game; it's about that moment of receiving a digital code that transforms your device into a one-way ticket to platforming paradise. So, thank you, Mario, for making my inbox a better place – and thank you, digital code, for being the star on top of the gaming Christmas tree!
This, I feel is the best one yet.
Yes, the story is pretty much the same: Bowser Kidnaps Peach.
But what set it apart is the new hat feature. Where you can take control of various mobs in the world.
The Maps are great with huge level designs as well as graphics that push the boundries of the Switch.
You combine that with puzzles to unlock and find purple coins, plus the different costumes you can purchase; I feel this has a lot of replay value.
Boss fights are your standard (jump on head 3 times) but there is a variety of attack that makes them a bit of a challenge. Although if you are a Mario Veteran, maybe not.
All in all, it's worth it to have this game in your Switch collection.
Before I review the game: I purchased this digitally through Amazon and did not have any problems redeeming the code. I tried to purchase it a few times through Best Buy digitally but was rejected every time, and I only needed to buy it once in Amazon using the same credit card. Not sure what the issue was with Best Buy, but absolutely zero issues with buying it digitally through Amazon.
On to the review of the game....
At first, the ability to throw a hat sounds kind of ridiculous, but it is so much fun to use. Whether using the hat to bloom all of the flowers in a circle to unlock a hidden heart, or hitting cloud-shaped hats to reveal platforms, or controlling a character and using their powers to proceed in a level, it's such a joy to play through all of the stages with the assistance of Cappy the hat. I haven't played 2 player yet, but the second player can control Cappy which is also great!
Don't worry about finishing the game quickly, because there are TONS to collect afterwards. There are a total of 999 power moons (the game's version of stars if you played Super Mario 64), and every level has a set amount of purple collectibles which can be used to buy costumes or decals for the odyssey. Speaking of costumes, there are also a lot of costumes that can also be bought using gold coins. I've played the game almost every day since I bought it, and I'm only at 321 power moons as of this posting. The game has fun activities to make collecting things less tiring than other games I've played.
One hint: every time you go through a red doorway with a golden hat on it or a pipe, be aware that there could be 2 power moons in that stage. If you find one power moon, exit the stage then re-enter and Cappy will tell you if there is another power moon left to collect.
This is a perfect game to play no matter what age you are. The fun factor is high and the amount of collectables is abundant. Great job as always, Nintendo!
If you want an in-depth review on the game, there are plenty of reviews out there that would do the game more justice than I ever could.
For me, I find it to be one of the more enjoyable Mario Brothers games I’ve played. (To me though, nothing beats the old NES and SNES Mario games, but I think I’m showing my age now.)
