Naraka Bladepoint may have only launched less than six months ago, but the battle royale – which has been a hit on Steam thanks to its parkour-inspired movement and mixture of melee and ranged combat – is already getting its first World Championship esports event.

Today, January 13, the Naraka Bladepoint World Championship gets underway in Singapore. After weeks of online qualifiers, 12 of the best teams from various regions will meet with 12 teams from China, the home of Naraka’s developer 24 Entertainment and publisher NetEase.

Despite Naraka Bladepoint esports still being in its infancy, there are some recognisable names among the qualified teams. Alliance, which fields teams in top esports like Valorant and Apex Legends, has picked up one of the qualified trios for the event. So too has Nigma Galaxy, a notable name in Dota 2 esports, among others.

The World Championship is certainly a show of intent from Naraka Bladepoint’s developer and publisher, who clearly see the battle royale as a strong competitive title that could establish a big esports scene in the future.

Not only have they pulled out the stops to host the event as an international LAN in Singapore, teams will be battling it out for a slice of the $1.5 million prize pool – a significant amount considering this is the first major event for a game that was only launched in August last year.

The event begins today and concludes on Sunday, January 16 where the first ever Naraka Bladepoint world champion will be crowned. The action will be streamed in English on Twitch, and viewers will get the chance to earn in-game items as they watch.
