One of pro LoL’s oldest curses has finally been broken at Worlds 2022

With T1's Worlds 2022 victory over JD Gaming, one of professional League of Legends' most potent jinxes known as the 'TSM curse' has now been cleansed

League of Legends Worlds 2022 TSM curse broken: Gumayusi

With T1 successfully securing their spot in the League of Legends Worlds 2022 Finals, one of the professional scene’s oldest curses has been lifted. Historically, every year LCS side Team SoloMid has attended the tournament the LCK has failed to hoist the Summoner’s Cup. Now, that statement no longer stands true.

Prior to today’s matchup, every year that TSM didn’t manage to make its way to the World Championship – the years being 2018, 2019, 2021 – it was, instead, the LPL which captured the title. As a reminder, the victorious sides were Invictus Gaming, FunPlus Phoenix, and EDward Gaming respectively.

However, as the nexus fell for the last time in T1’s 3-1 victory over JD Gaming, a divine light bore down on the annals of history, cleansing the blight. The LCK’s prayers were answered in Atlanta – NAmen.

For the curious, here are all the teams that won Worlds with TSM’s blessing over the years:

  • 2013: SKT T1
  • 2014: Samsung White
  • 2015: SKT T1
  • 2016: SKT T1
  • 2017: Samsung Galaxy
  • 2020: Damwon Gaming

While T1 has broken the wheel of destiny, its Worlds 2022 campaign still has one final hurdle. Although a fourth LoL Worlds title for Lee ‘Faker’ Sang-hyeok would make for a fairytale ending to his return to North America, one of Gen.G or DRX will have something to say about it.
