If you’ve ventured into the top lane on the Summoner’s Rift in the last few weeks, you’ll have probably spotted Soraka. The Starchild has become a popular pick in both professional and casual League of Legends games recently, but don’t get too comfortable playing her because a Riot Games developer has confirmed that she’s due to be nerfed soon.
In response to a question about the champion on Twitch, August Browning, Riot’s senior champion designer, says the team are aware of her incredibly high win rate on the Rift. As a result, the champion has been earmarked for balancing, although he was unable to say how just yet.
“It’s going to have to be nerfed,” August says in the clip, which you can watch below. “Its win rate is like 56 or 57% – it’s just overpowered. It’s not like it’s not cool. It’s cool that characters can go in other lanes but Soraka top right now is super powerful.
“So yeah, we’re going to have to nerf it, that’s what I’m calling. We’re going to have to nerf it pretty hard. We’ll have to figure out how we do it but right now its actually the strongest champion to play top except for Sett.”
Soraka was recently picked up by G2 Esports in the LEC against both Origen and Team Vitality, prompting other professional players to experiment with the Starchild.
The next League of Legends patch is slated to come out later this week but don’t expect any Soraka changes to ship with that update. If Riot is going to tweak the champion, it’ll take a few weeks to reach the PBE.
