League of Legends Deft joins DWG KIA: Deft

Two-time League of Legends world champion DWG KIA has announced the signing of 2022 Worlds-winning DRX star Kim ‘Deft’ Hyuk-kyu. Deft will be joining up with the LCK side for the 2023 season.

DWG KIA took to Twitter to share the news, asking fans to “please send lots of love and support” to the “champion of the 2022 World Championship”. He will now be joining up with fellow new boy Kim ‘Canna’ Chang-dong, as well as existing stars Kim ‘Canyon’ Geon-bu – who, as shared by Hupu Esports, played a major role in drawing Deft away from DRX – Heo ‘ShowMaker’ Su, and Kim ‘Kellin’ Hyeong-gyu.

‘Deft joins DWG KIA’ is certainly not a headline many would have expected to read, especially after the player’s remarkable LoL Worlds miracle run with DRX. In fact, there’ll be fans that didn’t even know that Deft would continue to play after this year.

Deft’s retirement became a major talking point throughout Worlds, with many hoping he wouldn’t hang up his mouse, and instead defer his mandatory military service for another year. Fortunately, Deft himself confirmed just this week that he would be continuing in a piece written by the player for The Players’ Tribune.

This new-look DWG KIA side will be presided over by former players-turned-coaches Choi ‘Acorn’ Cheon-ju and Kang ‘GorillA’ Beom-hyeon – both of whom were announced as new additions to the organisation at the same time as the players.
